IADC contracts¶
From earlier versions of this guide
This section was carried over from earlier versions of the user guide. Menu names and screens may differ in your version of Word or your form. If something does not match, contact High Tech Forms Support.
Adding text¶
Adding text to the first page¶
The first page of the IADC contract is a table. Choose Tables > Show Gridlines to see the table gridlines.
Do not use Insert Text from the High Tech Forms menu to insert text into a table. Type directly in the cell. If you need more than two or three words, insert a reference and put the text in another section of the document. You may need to adjust cell sizes; see your Microsoft Word documentation for table formatting instructions.
Adding a single line of text¶
Position the text cursor where you want to insert text. Choose Insert Text at Insertion Point from the High Tech Forms menu, then type your text. For macro settings, see Macro security.
Adding multiple lines of text¶
First make sure there are enough blank lines for the text. If not, find a place farther along in the contract for the text and reference it at the insertion point.
Do not let text wrap from one line to the next, and do not use Enter to move to the next line. Type one line at a time, using Down Arrow or Right Arrow to position the cursor on each following line.
At the bottom of a page, below all other body text, you may allow wrapping and use Enter if there is enough space.
Deleting text¶
Select the text and press Delete. Original contract text is marked with strikethrough. To undo an accidental deletion, choose Edit > Undo or press Ctrl+Z.
Replacing text¶
Delete the text to be replaced, then insert the replacement text.
Adding rows¶
Expand the table in Exhibit A, item 6 using Word’s built-in table row commands. See your Word documentation for instructions on adding rows.
Removing revisions¶
To remove a strikethrough line, highlight the affected text and choose Remove Revision from the High Tech Forms menu.
To remove text you inserted, select it and press Delete. To remove text another author inserted, highlight it and choose Remove Revision from the High Tech Forms menu.
Accepting changes and the final document¶
Never accept revisions to the document. All original contract language must remain visible. Do not use Accept changes to create a final document. Accepting changes makes your revisions permanent and ruins the document’s editability.
Always view and edit the document in Final Showing Markup so you can see exactly what is in it and what other parties will see. Choosing Final only hides revisions; it does not remove them. Recipients can still view revisions that remain in the document, even if you have hidden them on your PC.
These documents print with revision markup displayed. Turn off revision balloons.
Removing blank pages¶
Blank pages occur when inserted text wraps or Enter pushes existing lines down the page, moving a page break onto a blank page.
Remove the revisions on the preceding page and re-enter them without pushing existing lines down the page.
Section breaks¶
Do not insert or remove section breaks. They control headers and footers. Changing a section break can permanently change the header or footer.
Turning off revision balloons¶
Turn off revision balloons so your documents print properly.
Filling in blanks¶
Use the arrow keys, Page Up, Page Down, or the mouse to position the cursor on a blank, then enter the appropriate text.
Generally, position the cursor somewhere within the blank line, not at its beginning. If a blank begins a line of text, type from the beginning instead.
Checking boxes¶
Position the cursor next to the box, then choose Check-A-Box from the High Tech Forms menu or press Alt+J to check or uncheck it.
Multiple authors and editors¶
To modify another editor’s revisions, highlight the affected text and choose Remove Revision from the High Tech Forms menu. For example, use this command to delete text another editor added to the contract.
Revision markings in the margin¶
The original IADC contracts include bold text. Horizontal lines in the margin identify insertions and deletions so you can quickly locate revisions.
